Sylvester Clauzel
Sylvester Clauzel is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in project development and management across the Caribbean. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sustainable Development in Saint Lucia, where he successfully oversaw a model energy transition strategy tailored for a small-island state economy. Under his guidance, significant strides were made in water redevelopment, forests and watershed management, and climate change response strategies.Earlier in his career, Sylvester spearheaded what has been acclaimed as the most successful community-based tourism initiative in the Eastern Caribbean from 1998 to 2006.
He continued to influence the tourism sector by reorganizing and facilitating accreditation processes for a tourism training institute in Trinidad and Tobago between 2007 and 2009. He also developed and lectured a postgraduate course on "Tourism Planning in Developing Countries" at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, from 2008 to 2013.In addition to his governmental work, Sylvester has operated his consultancy firm, Scribal Consultancy Services, which provides strategic planning for sustainable tourism and environmental management among other services.
In 2023, he published "The Caring Entrepreneur - A Strategy for Sustainable Community-based Tourism," documenting his innovative approaches in the field.Sylvester also founded "The Education Station" in 2019, an alternative schooling program in Saint Lucia, now extended to Belize, that fosters stress-free environments focusing on character building, self-esteem, and self-determination for children in Grades K to 8. The program emphasizes logic, reasoning, and communication skills over traditional subjects, incorporating diverse extracurricular activities such as Karate, Chess, and Steelpan.Residing in Saint Lucia with his wife and two children, Sylvester Clauzel continues to impact sustainable development and education across the region, bringing innovative solutions to complex challenges.
